Wellness Works in Schools™ class featured on the cover of National Geographic’s Turkish Edition in February 2010.
The following appeared in the cover story on Stress: During a weekly mindful awareness class, second graders in Lancaster, Pennsylvania learn strategies for de-stressing (like paying attention to the breath as they move their hands). “When I ask if racing thoughts sometimes make it hard for them to fall asleep or if they ever get so angry that the feeling seems like it will never end,” says Wellness Works teacher Wynne Kinder, “even little children raise their hands.”

The momentum and complexity of life can lead to stress reactivity
across the mindbody connection, resulting in an array of physical
and mental/emotional problems for adults and children of all ages.
The contemporary fields of medicine, neuroscience and psychotherapy
are focusing on the mind (nervous system and brain) as a significant
influence on total mindbody health and wellness. New research confirms
that the capacity of individuals to handle change and stress in
a healthy and productive manner is associated with one's ability
to develop mental, emotional, physical and social competencies.
To assist individuals (adults, adolescents and children) in developing
these skills Kinder Associates LLC provides mindful awareness
programs in an expanding list of community, educational and organizational
environments. Common to all of our programs is our focus on mindfulness
philosophy, affording participants the opportunity to experience
mindfulness skills (focused awareness, attention, and concentration)
and approaches (healthy breathing, mindful movement, and relaxation).
With practice, participants are in a better position to strengthen
their inner locus of control, thereby fostering greater mental fitness,
emotional intelligence and physical well-being to relate and respond
to life's challenges---healthfully.
